I have a cockerel (about 9 months old) that would stay as far from me as possible. This morning he stood and let me pick him up with little to no drama. Any thoughts on why out of the blue he would allow this?

No, actually he is large, robust, and energetic. Largest BO. I was curious as to whether this may be the possible beginning of a mood shift for him. He is the alpha and a bully to my other boy…..and the hens for that matter. Is he thin? Generally when they are sick they are easy to catch.
Of course the one Cockerel, the beta, is the one we would want to keep. He's a bit more of a gentleman and more sociable overall.Keeping his distance from you is a good thing, bullying the hens is not.
But....he could be exhibiting this behavior because of the other roo/cockerel especially depending on how many hens/pullets are there. Separating the lesser for a period or permanent may solve this, or it may not.
