Olfactory deterrents for 'coons?

I have tried everything, sooner or later they coons get used to the smells and ignore it. I have found the only real effective thing, is a rifle. Yea, I hate shooting the critters, but after I killed two or three, the rest gave up. Same for the fox and the coyotes. I see them all the time by my pond but they will not come even close to the barn. The pond is about 300 yards from the coop. They are still in range, but as long as they stay out by my pond I leave them be.
