Hello,

I'm looking for some help. I have been having issues with my auto door since I got it. Omlet sent out a new one and I installed it only to keep getting the same problem. I'm wondering if anyone had a similar issue and they managed to find a fix.

Here’s a summary of what I’ve done so far:

1. **Installation and Initial Testing:**
- I assembled the door, fitted it to the coop, and successfully calibrated it.
- The Wi-Fi connection was established, and the manual operation via the module worked fine.
- I set the door to open at 7:00 in the morning, but it failed to do so, indicating that the door was blocked.

2. **Troubleshooting:**
- Assuming the door might have been blocked by a chicken, I checked the coop and ensured nothing was obstructing the door. However, the same issue persisted.
- I spent over an hour recalibrating and resetting the door without success.
- I then removed the door and brought it inside for further testing.

3. **Further Testing:**
- I noticed that the door might be slightly bent, as suggested in a previous email (see attached photo).
- I conducted a factory reset, unwired the module, changed the batteries, and tried every possible solution to identify the issue.
- At times, the door calibrates and operates perfectly. I have attached a video showing it successfully calibrating and moving along the rail, but then it displays the “door blocked” error at the end of the process: [Video Link 1] https://photos.app.goo.gl/pXgTh3Y3qAG7bEhQ8

4. **Intermittent Success:**
- On another attempt, everything seemed to work fine, so I tested the timed opening. This test was successful, as shown in this video: [Video Link 2] https://photos.app.goo.gl/1j8y2HpYmFZBY9Yw9
- However, when I tested how the door would respond to an obstruction by pressing “stop” in the app, the door stopped as expected. But when I tried to open it again, the original issue reappeared. This is documented in the following video: [Video Link 3] https://photos.app.goo.gl/f9ryidQaB1yhnDrc8

5. **Current Situation:**
- I’ve exhausted all troubleshooting options and am unsure what I’m doing wrong. The module is on the latest firmware, and I’ve tested the door in multiple positions—upright, lying down, installed in the coop, on a timer, and manual operation. Yet, the same problem recurs.
- It feels like a software bug, as the gear mechanism seems to work fine until the door encounters an obstruction or the “stop” command is used, which appears to disrupt the calibration.

I would greatly appreciate your assistance in resolving this issue. I’ve spent a considerable amount of time trying to fix this, and it’s becoming quite frustrating.

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,

Stephen

If this is the new version, omlet is having issues with these doors, but they don't fully admit it. I've read about the issues on the omlet fb pages. I have the older version of the door, so I can't help, but if you're on fb, you could post there.

We have the older auto door as well. We've incurred problems with the auto door not recognizing when a hen is in the way on multiple occasions and literally closed on them. We were there to react quickly. We also went through the whole calibration thing thinking that was it; but not. It's just not sensitive enough. I was wondering if the newer model door worked any better, but apparently not.
It's sounds like you've done all the possible troubleshooting so I would reach out to Omlet again for assistance or request another replacement.

Oh wow. I've tested my door time and time again to make sure it won't close on a chicken. It's always passed the test. I get especially paranoid because a few of them like to sit in the door when they go to roost.

The sensor seems to be placed in the middle of the door, so if a hen is mostly standing inside, but her neck and head are poking out - above where the sensor is located seems to be the issue. It's technology and technology is known to fail. I just don't trust it. The hens coop at different times so we wait until they're in way ahead of the automated door close time and manually close the auto door before the programmed auto time. (did I explain that right?) That way, we know everyone is in safe and we can still use the auto open and sleep in. I like to ensure all are in as I missed one in the early days and she was shut out, sleeping on the perch all night which I discovered the next morning. I felt so bad. We only use the auto door during the cooler months, otherwise, it is open all night for help with ventilation and air flow. We find them panting otherwise.

Hi Stephen,

We're really sorry to hear you're still having problems with your Smart Autodoor.
We would suggest scrolling through the menu to check the 'sensitivity' setting, it could be set too high in which case you could try dropping this down.
If you still have problems then please get back in touch with our customer service team, or, let us know your email address and they'll get in touch with you asap.

Many thanks,
Rosie
