Hello everyone!

I am just getting into raising chickens. I got six pullet chicks from Tractor Supply company, and they are golden comets.

However, there is one oddball that looks a little different from the rest. It has a lot more white on it, and it has always been bigger than the rest, with longer tail and wingfeathers. (See pics)

Is this one just chunky? Or maybe a different breed?

Thanks for the help. Raising these chicks has been so rewarding, and I'm enjoying it immensely!

Golden Comets can have a variable appearance. I think your oddball is within the range of what can normally happen.

Cackle Hatchery has a bunch of pictures in their listing for Golden Comets. The first one I see is a rooster, so ignore him, but if you look through the others you can see that hens have different amounts of red vs. white and different shades of red/gold coloring. I think your oddball is a bit heavy on the white but still nicely within the range of what is possible.

It can be fun to have chickens that look a bit different than each other, so you can identify them as individuals. It looks like that one is going to be easy to recognize that one

Those are all golden comets. They are created by crossing a New Hampshire Red rooster with a White Rock or Rhode Island White hen, which means that not all pullets will have the exact same coloring. That particular chick just got more ink from her mother
