Hello! I am thinking about getting some geese, and was looking on metzer farms and saw the French Toulouse! The chart said that it was calm, had a low chance of flying, and it was the most available. So any opinion on these geese? Are they like metzer farms said they are? (They are also very beautiful! 🥰 ) Thanks!

I have two; They're usually bred for foie gras and as such tend to be very large bids, it's unlikely they'll be able to fly anywhere. They're both very docile, but one of them especially, loves a cuddle and has fallen asleep in my arms quite a few times.

I have French Toulouse from Metzer, they are as described, mostly.

Truthfully the reason why Metzer makes the distinction between their “Toulouse” and their “French Toulouse” isn’t just because they’re sourced directly from France, but because, as it says, they aren’t show quality, they do get some white spots, and because they aren’t “breed standard” there’s a higher chance for individuality, so that can include personality.

Most of mine are calm and friendly if you spend time with them and raise them like babies, but you can get the occasional goose or gander that’s a little spicier than others, though that can be true of all breeds.

I've read in a few places that the French/Utility/Production Toulouse goslings grow & put on weight more rapidly than other breeds. Does anyone have any experience with this?

That seems believable. I ordered American Buff, Embden, and French Toulouse from Metzers, and both my husband and I have commented on the fact that the Toulouse seem to have grown at a significantly faster rate.
