Hello!

I am a first time chicken owner! have a small flock of 5 hens (21 weeks old) Three are orpingtons and two are barnvelders. I received them from My Pet Chicken’s hatchery and have raised these girls since they were just a few days old. Since they were chicks a few have had relatively small combs, including the lavender(grey) hen, I believe she was born with a slightly deformed and very small comb.

Since I am new to this, I was wondering if anyone could offer some insight on the looks of their comb health? Two of them (one Orpington one Barnie) have significantly redder combs. I check them regularly for mites/lice and have not encountered any problems from what I can tell. They behave normally and are energetic/chatty as usual.

I would be so grateful for any advice/comments/suggestions!

-Thank you for your time!

Comb color indicates health and whether a bird is in production or not. Those laying will have large red combs. Those not laying will have smaller combs with a duller color. Yours look normal. Some are sexually maturing faster than others which is normal.
