So,
I'm getting into pheasantry, and have been reading up on the legalities of possessing, propogating, and trading/ selling pecies listed as threatened or endangered. I know MANY of us have or have had one or more of these listed species (ducks, chickens, pheasants, etc) but I have yet to see anyone really mentioning the permit requirements. I know in my state you have to have a game bird license to breed and sell the pheasants, but don't you technically also need a separate permit for those species listed as threatened or endangered? I ask because several of the pheasants I'm interested in are on this list, yet they are sold readily both by small private breeders, and some of the larger hatcheries such as Cackle, Purely Poultry, McMurray, etc.
I found an old thread on here where someone mentioned people in the past successfully petitioned to have some of these birds exempted from the prohibited activities relating to threatened and endangered species, meaning they are still listed as such, but are exempt from the rules basically. Does anyone know anything about this? Do any of you possess these permits and how difficult were they to obtain?
Thanks in advance!
