Hi! So I just found out that my parakeets have been mating. I am a bit underprepared, I have rose pine wood bedding on hand so I was wondering if that would be acceptable for nesting box material? I don't want the baby parakeets to end up with splayed legs. Also is there any specific nesting box that anyone would recommend. It is just hard to know which one to choose.

@Zoohtasim
I built 1 nest box and purchased a few off Amazon and have tried different materials including paper, shavings etc my favorite is the coconut coir but my budgies are very finicky and typically pull out most of the materials I add :th

I don't know anything about nesting material, but when budgies mate it doesn't mean they want to/should have babies. They can just mate without hatching chicks.

Just because they are mating, doesn't mean they will or should breed. Are they both more than 1 year old? Are they healthy and not having any health problems now? Are they both confirmed male and female? (yes sometimes the other way around can happen)

If yes to all, then there's another problem of them not having any nest boxes. Them mating without it either means that they'll not lay or that they've found a dark place in your house to lay if they aren't caged all the time that is.

As per nesting materials only, pine wood shavings are a good choice, organic natural cat litter also works great. As per a nesting box, a wooden 20x12x12cm box hanged up high in their cage with a concave is the perfect box for budgies.

Again, dont be disappointed if they dont lay, budgies sometimes mate without any purposes of laying.
