Peacock sleeping in a garage question

Hello all,

I hope I will be able one day answer someone's question as well.

Anyways, my enclosure outdoor will be adjacent to garage, which is wooden, with some beams and light fixtures. Also there seem to be about thousand nails coming through on the inside walls(from siding maybe). I thought the garage will be perfect for my peacock to sleep in. At night I will send him in, and lock the door(no foxes coming in).
Now, I am getting worried, he might freak out, like he sometimes does inside my house, and hit his head on the beams, or get zapped by the light fixtures, or fly into the wall and poke himself on the nails. I was hoping he might perch on the beams, also in case someone does come in to eat him, he can fly high up to protect himself.
Now, I am not sure. What would you recommend for his sleeping quarters.

Should I build him a small box to sleep in, or enclosed perch? What about if he needs to escape from anyone? Should I put netting across the garage to divide it,so he can't access anything else, or should I leave it open and see what happens?

I have no idea, what they do when they sleep. But I saw him freak out, and it is ugly, cause he does not care what he flies into.

I feel there is no safe way out with my very safe garage.

What do your birds sleep in? Do they need perch for sleeping or is bed/box/shelf ok?

Thank you for any tips to my lengthy question.

I think he will get used to being in the garage because he can wonder in and out on his free will all day. My birds sleep on the perches in the runs unless the weather is bad then they sleep on the perches in the house, no matter what he will want to perch, he will not sleep in a box. Also what do you mean by an "enclosed perch"

My peafowl are in a pen were they have...11 perches I think...The five of them really don't need all those perches, but 5 perches are in a small pen with a tarp top (this was our first pen we built on to it. It can be closed off from the bigger section), 2 of the tallest perches are in a tin shelter that they get in when it rains (normally they sleep on the perches not sheltered when it rains though), then four perches are in the open section covered with netting so they can't fly out. That is were they normally sleep. Peafowl really like to sleep in the open not in a shelter it seems. In the wild they sleep up high in trees of course.
Here is a long pole perch they have but they don't sleep on this one, they just fly up here during the day to preen and stuff.

This is a shorter smaller perch in the small tarp covered pen section.

Here are some old pictures of when we first built the pen, but you can see the crosses that hold up the netting. This is were the peafowl normally sleep at night.

Just try not to startle your bird. When peafowl are new they are easy to startle, but as he gets used to you that will no longer be a problem. The nails would worry me though, watch out for that. Make sure his perch is as high as possible because they love to perch high and the higher the safer too. Also it helps him work his flying muscles. Most of our perches are 6ft. and up. Maybe

Ha my Black Shoulder hen always is startled when we come near she will never calm down and wont come near us, I think this is because we had to do an operation to remove a sinus infection without anesthetic. You are so luck your will eat out of your hands
