Hi gang,

A month ago I bought 4 peafowl eggs from a lovely guy near me. I put them in my (very cheap) hobbyist incubator with little hope but and interest to see what happened.

This morning we work to one hatched and two pipped which was exciting!

By late afternoon, it was clear that the hatched one wasn’t walking and the pipped ones were making no progress. My diagnosis was poor humidity control in the incubator which seemed likely given how cheap it was and my inaccurate husbandry.

Anyway, I helped the other two out as well as the third one which hadn’t pipped but I could hear cheeping. So all four of them are out now. We’ve also made “shoes” for the one that came out without help.

Its been a few hours now and they’re all lying on their backs. No sign at all of getting to their feet. Is this something that might sort itself out? Should I prepare for losing them all? Or is there something I should be doing? Picture attached.

Thanks so much in advance for all your help!

You need to get them out of the incubator. Put them on a non-slip surface. I use carpet gripper or shelf gripper.
They need fresh air and room to stand asap.

Update: they seem to be finding their feet slowly. I’m sending to brooder in the next hour or so.

Progress being made.

They’re all sitting up now and their feet don’t look too weird. We’ve taken the one shoe off the one bird and haven’t don’t it for the others. I’m guessing it’s obvious when their feet need correcting …?
