Hello Everyone, I’ve been a user of these forums, especially in emergencies. I just want to thank everyone for posting and sharing your knowledge! You’ve help my silkies on many occasions.

My daughter is severely allergic to peanuts and seems to be reacting from the chick starter (ma poule from Amazon). I am wondering if anyone knows of a peanut free brand of chick starter or if we can make our own?

We hatched chicks 4 years ago and she actually reacted to the food then as well. We just weren’t as certain what was going on. Once the chickens and food went outside she was fine. We do not allow her to handle the food.

Please let me know if anyone knows of any peanut free food or if there is a way for us to make our own feed. We don’t want to get rid of our chicks (Lilly and Henny).

Thanks a lot for your response. We spoke to someone working at feed store and they let us know there is no way peanuts would ever be in the chicken feed as they are expensive. But they have peanuts there and there could be cross contamination.

I reached out to the company that made this particular feed and will keep everyone posted. For now we are going to be extra cautious when handling the feed and not let our daughter around the chicks until they are a bit less messy.

I’ll let you know if we find any additional information.

Yeah, if the feed is processed in the same plant/factory/whatever that also processes nuts, then there will for sure be cross contamination. Does it say anywhere on the package that the food is processed in the same place as nuts?

Otherwise, even sitting in the same area as nuts, maybe stacked next to each other or on top of each other during shipping, there's cross contamination there as well.
