I just got 8 Pearl Leghorns who came from Murray McMurray. These are a month old. I thought they would be "flighty" but they are the sweetest things. They prefer to eat the food I pour on my leg instead of their recently filled dishes and will let me hold them, pet them and fall asleep in my arms. They are very soft and such a beautiful white with yellow shades. I am in love!!

What cute chicks! Sounds like yours are turning into great pets. Pearl Whites are a really nice strain of Leghorn, super super layers, you should be really happy with them. I've found mine to be quite friendly also, think because they have been bred for production so long that a lot of the flightiness has been bred out of them compared to some of the other Leghorns.

I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio!

I think they are being so loving because they don't want to go to the chicken farmers. ;0) I am being so loving to all my girls and roosters in hopes in some way to make up for the treatment they receive in "another" reality.

Tonight I am going to set up a 250 watt red lamp and bring a few into the "big" house to sit on my lap while I watch TV. Will let you know how that goes. I don't care about any poop. I am changing my clothes between my baby sets anyway. I have 7 9-day olds from incubating my own eggs. They are in a tub in my shower inside the "big" house. The Pearls are in their own coop.

Hoping to make them really tame for me in case I have to treat them for anything in the future. The calmer chickens are so much easier to catch.

Chickens do seem to know where their dinner is coming from, especially if they don't want to be turned into it (though roosters maybe a different story), sounds like your hens are going to be good pets... they sure are a lot easier to work with if they don't panic when you handle them. Good luck with your own chicks too, sounds like you had a a nice hatch.
