So I want to make a spray for my yard to kill the fleas for my dogs, and also to help with the flies, mosquitoes, etc. I want to use mostly cedar oil but add a bit of permethrin as well. I live in Florida & the pests here are unbearable right now. My girls free range so would the permethrin be ok for them if they are let out once it is dry? Or will this create inedible eggs if they eat the grass etc?

That is a question for @KikisGirls !

Bear in mind that permethrin is not to be used around cats if you have any.

I would have to look on my bottle of permetherins. I use it in my chicken coops because awhile ago I noticed mites. I seemed to have gotten rid of the mites but am spraying weekly as it doesn't kill the eggs. I live in Florida too near Ocala.

Permethrin is perfectly safe for chickens...you can actually use it right on them and dogs too!

I would look for the Martin's Concentrate permethrin and mix up your own batches with water only...no cedar oil stuff. (I am not even sure what it is) If you want to rid bugs you can't rely on "homemade" recipes. Use permethrin.

Concentrate to be mixed with water:

Ready to use no mixing required:

Think about what else you will be killing in your yard; every bee, butterfly, and beneficial insect out there. And likely frogs and toads. Keeping meds on your dogs will keep them comfortable, and fly traps away from the house work well for flies. Mosquitoes will fly in from outside your yard to find you anyway!
Obviously I'm not a fan of using insecticides (or herbicides) except for specific and limited uses.

I agree with Mary... :thumbsup

But sometimes ya gotta do what you gotta do... :barnie

I just bought this permethrin product that is for subterranean pest, very affordable and should also be very effective.

It says the residual last 90 days. I imagine that is relevant to your weather or other conditions.

ETA: diluted to the right proportions, also for use on fowl.
