For the fluffy vision impaired chicken...
I'd love to hear tricks and tips and see lots of pics of Silkie (or other fluffhead chickens) crest styles!

I really love the fluffy heads on my Silkies but it's often not so good when they bump into the wall or trip over a rock.

I have tried a few different hair elastics but so far ended up trimming around the eyes. Certain hair elastics stay in, untill rooster mates. I don't like my haircut skills though so rather hair ties.

Pic of Boof with pink elastic, stayed in till rooster mated her.

And this is Charchar, 13 week old, her little elastic seems to be staying in well. She's doing very well navigating around now that she can see better.

I tried the hair bands on both my polish and silkies. They were not having it!🤣
They get monthly trims around the eyes, makes a world of difference.
First time I trimmed around the polish girls eyes, they literally ran full speed across the yard squawking "I can see, I can see!!!"
😊

Haha, they do love being able to see! Any pics of your fluffy cuts?

Today I tried to give Smokey a haircut...
She absolutely loooovves being stroked on the head! Its instant calm and she lays flat, not a single movement!
.. I just struggle with trimming off the gorgeous fluffiness! Its just too cute!
Any tips on trimming please tell! Do you trim all around style or just around eyes? @truchickendiva , @LadiesAndJane ?

After.. well I need to trim more.. but she can see a little better, it was a whole pile of fluff I trimmed yet it doesn't look that different 😂

Good job!
She is so sweet! I love her color and the way she just puts her head in your lap. 🥰
Sorry! Got tied up in other projects and could not trim yesterday! On my silkies I just trim enough around the eyes so that I can see the eyes then I assume the birds can see me too, then. Most of my birds are bearded so have to trim both above and below the eyes. On the non bearded, obviously only above the eyes.😊
