We recently moved into a big old house and it came with a pigeon house. We've learned rather quickly about how to manage pigeons and have made a lot of improvements to the house but we still often get young pigeons kicked out of the nest and attacked by single males. So far we've taken in two of these and raised them in the house. I LOVE my pigeons now - they're the sweetest pets you could have.

One thing I find quite funny is how they react to their favourite treats. I discovered that my pigeon loves pine nuts. He goes completely crazy for them. I just wondered if any of you other pigeon fanciers out there have tips on treats for pigeons? (Particularly less expensive ones than pine nuts!!)

Shelled unsalted peanuts (fed as a treat only) bring the flock to my hand with just one whistle. Even adult birds with a bit of patience succumb to there lure.

Oh great! Thank you - I'll definitely try that. I only have one tame enough to eat from my hand at the moment. Mind you, he's also tame enough to just waltz into the house every morning, drink water from his personal espresso cup, eat whatever takes his fancy around the kitchen and then perch on the armchair by the fireplace for a sleep until he decides he wants to be a real pigeon again, usually some time in the afternoon! I think he's a little spoilt...

Thank you - also a much more economical option than pine nuts! I shall pop down the shops to get some peanuts and peas as soon as possible. I like the idea of trying to tame the adults too.

Oh gosh its great when they get trained! And it doesn't take long. As soon as mine see the red scoop they all fly down to the feed pans at once and just stand around looking at me. As if to say "HEY, come on, anytime now" lol
