Plants poisonous to Buttons? Coturnix?

I changed out the potted houseplant I had in w/my button pair [a bromiliad] and replaced it with one planted w/croton, a tropical groundcover and a sprig of Christmas cactus. They had eaten off the tips if the bromilead, but went to town on the new pot. Consumed the groundcover

pulled out the cactus and have begun to take leaves off of the croton

They have eaten the potting soil down over an inch, stand on tip-toe to reach it! I give them spinach several times a week which they love and gave them some cabbage yesterday, which was also a hit. Am wondering about putting some seed heads from my ornamental grasses. Sorrel?? Dandelion? Is there anything speciffic I should avoid? [they were unimpressed with the baby pumpkin!!
