I'm trying to find an obedience dumbbell for my large-jawed Labrador Retriever for 4-H this summer and the place I was looking at for buying them (http://www.jjdog.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=1CATDUMBBELLSDUMMIES) doesn't carry 4" bit plastic dumbbells for less than $20. I would like to get the molded white one, but that doesn't come in 4" bit and it doesn't look like they custom-size that one. If only my dog didn't have such a massive head.

Those of you who do obedience with extra-large dogs - where do you like to get your plastic dumbbells? Is there anywhere that has them cheaper without sacrificing quality?

Thanks for your help!

I still haven't ordered mine yet but I've heard great things about this place. They are very good about being able to tell you what size will work best for your dog.
I doubt that you're going to find a good dumbbell for less than $20

ETA: also you need to make sure you get the right size end pieces. That is the problem I had with my dog. Too small caps and he wants to pick it up by the end instead of in the middle

Thank you! I had looked at that place but wasn't sure they made them big enough - but if they do the custom ones, that might work perfectly. Thanks!

Oh - I hadn't thought of that. Yes, that would be a problem. Thanks!

Anyone else with a big dog who uses obedience dumbbells?

I did end up getting a dumbbell, and from J&J Dog Supplies. The funny thing is, I ordered the 4-inch turned plastic dumbbell, and when I got it it was WAAAY too big for him. So I returned it (which was smooth and painless) and ordered a 3-inch molded one (which was only $14). That one fits him great, and has served us well for our purposes (although he rolled/mouthed it when we first worked on it, so it's got some mouth marks on the bar).

Thanks for your help!
