My epic journey towards hygienic quail watering and dry bedding continues (and yes I might get a PhD thesis out of this). I ordered some chick side drinker nozzle things to convert a plastic container into a water apparatus, very little mess and the birds like it but not very convenient for my pen arrangement: the best containers are large floor sitting type things (ice cream bucket) and take up a lot of floor space. Next up I’ll be trying these little plastic cup thingies that screw onto a soda bottle. I also ordered some of those washable Guinea pig cage liners, maybe it will absorb some of the excess moisture under my drippy bottles (or be a complete disaster!). Stay tuned!

Would the "chick side drinker nozzle things" work if you could attach them to PVC and have the water supply raised off the ground or even outside the pen?
I use these:

on the outside of the cage with a 5 gallon bucket resting on top of the cage and connected with hose as shown in the pictures at the website. I have very little trouble with wet bedding.
Before I got those drinkers, I used these:

or similar and originally had them on the inside of the cage. My droppings pans were constantly full of water until I moved the drinkers outside.
When I build my outdoor enclosure, I'll probably use something like these:

to have a PVC watering system.

I'm using a converted large dog crate (now two levels) as my quail pens, I need something that will clip to the outside without being too clumsy or huge and PVC system would be great but I only have 15 birds and 3 pens so more work than I want to mess with! I need a rabbit water bottle type thing that doesn't leak!
