Hello, I recently bought some chicks from Cackle, and they arrived today! I got 10 of their "Free range/predator resistant" surprise chicks as very adorable packing peanuts. They sent me 12 altogether (6 of each breed). I've done some searching already, and I'm thinking the chipmunk colored ones are either Brown Leghorns or Red Jungle Fowl. I'm leaning towards Brown Leghorns because of their yellow leg color. And maybe the black ones are Australorps? But some of them look more grayish/blue to me, so I'm not 100% sure. Hopefully, someone who is better at identifying chicks than I am can help! Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Look like brown leghorn and black breasted brown standard old English game. Does cackle have a description of what a predator resistant chicken is? 🤔 I might like those.
I was wondering the same, lol.

Here's what the store page says: https://www.cacklehatchery.com/product/free-range-predator-resistant-special/

Cackle has pictures of the old english game on their website and they do look alike. I'm super excited for them to feather out now so that I can know for sure! I did notice both breeds have colored markings on their faces. From my past experiences, it seems hatcheries usually only mark the "rarer" or more expensive breeds, which makes me wonder if they are old English game. Although, I think the brown ones look more like leghorns. But this is my first time ordering from Cackle, so I could be wrong!

So far, they have definitely been flighty and quick birds. They did not want to be caught for pictures!

Oh wow, interesting. I didn't know cackle was breeding/selling RJF. The brown ones have wild type. I think brown leghorn have yellow legs, RJF do not, otherwise chick color would be very similar as both are wild type. Definitely flighty either one. 😄 Will be an interesting flock no doubt. Never had Easter Eggers, friend has some though I wouldn't describe them as flighty or predator resistant? Wishing you the best with all your new little ones, whatever they turn out to be, good luck ❤️
