Last night a wire sparked and our chicken coop caught on fire while we were sleeping. There are only five survivors and our whole family is devastated at the lost of our precious pets. Most of the remaining birds are do alright expect one.

She can hardly breathe and its like she's getting no air, her breathes are loud and gargling.
One of the chickens was doing the same thing but she coughed out a cloud of smoke and is doing fine now.

Is there anything I can do to help the one chicken breathe??
Also, none of them will open their eyes. How do I make them feel the best they can?
Thank you

Best thing to do is keep her in fresh air. That's the only advice I have right now.

Hopefully someone else can help you out more then I can.

Have you tried rinsing out their eyes with saline? I assume they are irritated from the smoke, so I'd suggest cleaning them out and just letting time do its thing.

I dont know about the actual inhalation though. Best of luck.

Chickens are especially sensitive to respiratory illness, and smoke inhalation is probably very irritating to them. Second providing clean water and maybe doing a rinse. Also try to use a slightly damp q-tip to dab around their nostrils. I'm in OR and lots of folks had their birds affected by tons of smoke, and most people seem to have had their birds recover. I hope your girls pull through!

Wash out there eyes with water, the smoke could be in there eyes. The one that doesn’t seem good make sure you give it lots of water, try to force it some, it’s one of the only ways of will breathe better since the water has oxygen.
