Alright so I have a ...chicken. a black one at that. It came in the same run as much polish, but the appearance is nothing like my polish... so I think from googling I have an all black polish or a crevecoeur.... either of which would be unusual given the circumstances (ie it came from a feed store). I also don't know if pullet or roo. It is just over 6 weeks old and I know with these breeds it can be difficult. After reading other posts I know we need comb, body and "hair photos"... just for reference, the feathers on the crown are round. Not pointed. Thank you!... also, is it bearded? I have SO MANY QUESTIONS LOL

I think it's a Crevecouer. They have stockier, lower to the ground bodies than Polish. Plus black Polish are rare, and several hatcheries offer Crevecouers.
Thank you because the body is much "heavier" than my polish (she's more dainty). The hatchery that they came from sells crevecoeur (i saw that as a tip to look into on another thread), and I found a picture from when s/he was little... all black, white underbelly, white wing tips, dark crest. The chick must have somehow ended up in the polish bin ha!

I am new to crested breeds and I saw you had commented on some other threads so I appreciate the help.

I will post when we know gender.

Good deal!

As promised- updated photos. Obviously a crevecoeur. But TBD on gender. 8 weeks old with some red. No comb or wattles yet. I've seen lots of hens with red comb and wattles. No crowing, and no sickle / hackle feathers yet. I know people enjoy seeing updates because the help others. I'll post again in a couple weeks. **note, it was wind as all get-out today. So if it looks extra fluffy or scraggly, that's why. Otherwise we are getting a nice bouffant!
