Does anyone know if you can use the pond cleaner stuff in your duck pond? I’ve seen a few that say safe for fish and wildlife but wasn’t sure if it was actually safe and if anyone uses this type of stuff to help keep their duck ponds clean. We have a small pond with pump and a filter.

Are you talking about a Polaris ? I think the bag would be full in no time and the ducks would be so scared of it they would never go back in. If you are talking about chemicals, any kind of chemicals with ducks scares me.

Yes, I’m talking about this pond cleaning stuff I saw at Home Depot that says it’s made of Barley and is all natural; safe for fish and wildlife. We have a pump and filter that has these black ball things in it but the water after one week is just

Is your pond lined with small rock?
Do you have lots of aquatic plants?
Do you have any fish?
We have small river rocks on the bottom and bigger ones on the sides. It’s too small for plants. No fish. Will get minnows soon for them to snack on.

Plants are fairly critical to pond filtration and health. Plants add air. Microbes need plants to live on, to eat the yuckies in water. Ducks like plants. Fish need plants to breed.

Not trying to lecture. I've been doing lots of research to build my own duck pond and NOT use any electrical components. Because I'm stubborn.
I think you'll have better success with some modifications.

Thanks for your input! Our pond is tiny! Like 3’x3’2’ deep. We have 2 ducks. Where would I put plants? What kind?

I cannot give plant specific suggestions as my research hasn't gone that far yet, but there are duck edible aquatic plants that will also help support other wildlife.
They should be planted amongst your stones. Depending on type of plant, some will be at bottom of pond and some will be along the sides.
Many people bury/otherwise incline the pond banks so that the rocks will support plants along the edges while still allowing plants to filter water. I imagine even a small pond like yours could be modified for this.

Have pics?
