Possible fertilized duck egg, what are my options?

Howdy howdy! First off, I am new to the duck world and I received my first egg from my Cayuga pair today! I really don't want to hatch it as the last little duckling that was hatched here was stolen/taken/prey food etc.. and currently I am at my legal limit on backyard birds. My pair is just over 4 months old and my drake is extremely "active", if ya catch my drift. I know people eat fertilized duck eggs that have matured but that is not for me. I have a few people that buy my chicken eggs and are interested in my duck egg but I don't want to sell them something that could potentially make them sick. Currently the egg is in the fridge as it is 100+ degrees here and I don't want the heat to activate any growing, if it is fertilized lol.
Any and all advice is welcome and needed!

If it's just fertilized, as in you took it away from them the day it was laid (not having been incubated), you can eat it like you do regular, unfertilized eggs. No difference in taste or texture whatsoever.

All the duck eggs I have are fertile (one male to 6 females) and I either eat them or, if I have too many one week, sell them as hatching eggs. No different than chicken eggs.

I don't eat fertilized eggs either, but plenty others do. All that's different is there will be a smal blood spot- if that. Just let whoever your selling it to know and if they don't mind, then you're set!

Good luck.

You can use the Duck eggs...Collect them daily just as you do the Chicken eggs...Their will no be a Duckling inside the egg unless the eggs have been set...A blood spot is just a glitch in the Hens egg making machine....
Have no worries!....

Thank you all very much! It has been extremely helpful!! I received another egg today so I am slowly gathering my collection to sell. Thanks again!

I've been reading this with interest.

I have been keeping my drakes separate from the girls but they all grew up together and are not happy apart. I was hoping to out them all back together, but I sell my eggs for consumption (farm gate seller) and was worried that if I don't chill them first they might be viable. Do I have to chill them if they are potentially viable, or can I just remove them from them coop and sell as usual?

There is nothing wrong with selling viable eggs. No one will ever know the difference. Just don't leave the eggs outside in 95+ degree weather. If you have any doubts, crack three eggs open and see what they look like.
