Sunday morning one of our hens wasn't acting normal and when I checked her she'd hurt her feet. The skin from her joint to the bottom of her foot had a flap of skin hanging. Some skin was hanging on her other foot. I brought her inside and gave her a bath. I washed her up with castile soap and rinsed well. Then I blow-dried her, slathered cold-pressed castor oil on her feet and wrapped them. I unwrapped today expecting to see improvement. Instead, all but one toe has fallen off the bad foot and she lost a toe tip on the other. The one missing only thr tip she's still gripping my hand. The one missing most of her toes is white. She smells. What should I be giving her? No vets around me to deal with chickens and my hub would rather cull than spend hundreds to heal a chicken. She's just turned a year old last month. She's eating a drinking. She's hobbling around a little. I brought her outside this morning for fresh air. I know she'll live with one foot but am concerned about infection spreading. She's currently chillen in an Epsom salt bath. I will put colloidal silver on her when I'm done. I'd like to leave her unwrapped but don't want her pooping on her feet and making things worse. TIA.

She's a brahma. I cut the feathers along her foot to see better. After her bath when I was drying her I noticed her belly also has sores. She refuses to roost on the roosting bar and instead roosts on their feed can on her stomach.

This is the skin hanging from the worst foot.

Her stomach. I wiped her down with an antiseptic wipe and then sprayed VetRx spray all over. I also trimmed feathers off of her where I couldn't clean poop completely feom them.

I have her in a bin in the house with a light on it. She actually got on to the side and roosted there all night. I have 500mg Amoxicillin from when my dog was spayed but didn't need it as she healed well. I'm going to break them in half and then grind the halves into powder and give her one half (roughly 250 mg) every 24 hours for the next 3 days on top of keeping her clean and putting the Vetrcyn spray on her. She'll continue to be fed eggs with some garlic and oregano in them. There was blood on the bad foot so she's at least getting blood flow. I did give her half of an arnica tablet for pain yesterday as I realize it was a lot on her with unwrapping, bathing, wiping, spraying, and handling her; she definitely appeared to be in pain. The arnica worked well on top of keeping her warm. I'll continue to update here as she progresses. She's still eating and drinking. She isn't lethargic. I'm just focusing on the infection right now. I'd appreciate if anyone else has any advice.

She may have suffered from frostbite, injury, or a bite wound in the past. I have seen a few frostbitten toes on a small rooster who insisted on sleeping on a metal garbage can lid in freezing weather. I would continue soaking her feet in warm Epsom salts water for a couple of days to clear up infection. Apply Betadine or Walmart Equate First Aid Solution to the foot and breast bone sores twice a day. You could also use plain Triple Antibiotic Ointment on the breast sores instead. Chlorhexidene or Hibiclens is a good substitutes for Betadine.

You can give 250 mg of the amoxicillin twice a day right into her beak for 7-10 days. I think Kathy sometimes uses 57 mg per pound twice a day.

Ok, thanks for the tips. I plan on getting some Chlorhexidene today. I had Hibiclens but didn't realize I've run out. I'm in FL and haven't had freezing temps so I know frostbite isn't likely but I'm leaning more toward an injury that got bacteria in it.
