Well it was a rainy day at this years PoultryFest in Smithville, Ontario CANADA.
Earlier showers had left the area surrounding the track a mud bowl. I almost withdrew from the race, as I was worried about slipping & breaking a hip or something.
But LUCKY told me the race MUST go on.
I'm still busy editting pics & then will work on the video, but here are a few to start with....
Even with the lousy weather, the Chicken Chariot Races drew a good crowd. Many were there to see if LUCKY could be the first chook in PoultryFest history to pull off a win & become a 3 time Champion. I'm not sure who was more nervous. Lucky or me.
We met up with LUCKY's #1 Fan before the race, who also happens to be the PoultryFest Mascot.
In the first heat, Chicken Finger's was able to pull out an easy win.
In the second race, Avian Flu lived up to it's name and flew up & out of the track with it's chariot still attached. A disqualification was awarded by the judges. The chicken was renamed "Stu" by the owners, & will not be seen at future races.
LUCKY won the third heat covering the 50 feet of track in just under 15 seconds. This qualified her for the FINALS. In between races, LUCKY mingled with her fans & groupies.
The final race saw LUCKY go head to head with last years champion, only to fall behind about half way down the track. In the most dramatic finish to a race I've ever participated in, LUCKY passed her competitor in the last 2 feet of the track. You are going to have to see the video of this to believe it.
Once again LUCKY in Southern Ontario's fastest chicken, & a 3 time PoultryFest Chicken Chariot Racing Champion.
This was also her last race. LUCKY is officially retiring from the racing circuit. At 9 years old she deserves to be remembered as being at the top of her game. Her chariot, the Lucky Bucket is also being retired. Next year her protege, Lacy my golden sebright will hit the track, along with a new chariot that is in the design stage.
