Preparing a call duck for their fist lay?

Last year (2024) my baby girl Johnny started laying for the first time she had 2 small eggs and then layed a normal sized egg, I was so excited, at the time I was hatching some more call ducks so I put her egg in the incubator too, the next day she was acting really weird so I took her inside and long story short she died :hit I was devastated, her egg hatched and then died at 3 days old, it was a very very hard time and her mate was heart broken too
We think Johnny died from damage from the egg coming out
Anyway I managed to hatch 6 call ducks and they are now adults,
2 of them were girls, peach and dot, and they will lay this year (the 2 girls are Johnny's sisters) and they are a lot smaller than Johnny was (Johnny was pet quality, these girls are breeder quality)
is there any way to get them ready too lay? so they are less likely too die (I know it was probably a fluke but I am still worried)
Thank you for reading
