Producer's Pride Brooder/Heater

I just opened up a brand new Producer's Pride brooder for my baby chicks. I got the whole pen set up and checked the brooder plate, just to be sure it was working properly. It was so hot that holding it there for a few seconds felt like it could cause a burn. I went and got my temperature gun, and it said it was 131 degrees. I called the company and they said it should not be above 90 degrees and to go ahead and return it. I then read some review online stating the same. One even mentioned it killed all of her chicks.

We should always double check products we purchase... but since I didn't see another post on here about this, I wanted to make mention of it.

I am having the opposite problem. Even on heat it doesn't heat well enough for small chicks. 90 seems too cool for them and 131 is too hot.

Yes! The customer service rep said most of their calls are for that reason. Another review online said hers go from being too cold to too hot. :/
