Hello my 1½ bantam hen has a prolapsed vent. I can get the vent in, however when she poops it goes out. Any treatment options out there? Thank you

Do you have photos?

Does she have an egg on the way?

I would start giving her extra Calcium asap, this can help with retention. In a crisis, Calcium Citrate with D3 can be given. 1 tablet Daily, just pop the tablet into the beak and let her swallow.

Sometimes there's an egg on the way or the tissue is swollen and won't stay in when a hen pushes out fecal matter (or an egg). Time will help reduce swelling, but it's important that any time tissue is exposed to keep it moist with an ointment, oil, honey or cream.

Would this calcium be good? She's quite small probably around a pound so how much of the tablet should I give her? Like 1/2 or 1/3 daily. Thank you

Hi, I know this is an older post and I'm jumping on somebody else's, but I'm having the same issue. I also have a bantam that's about a year and a half old with a vent prolapse. Not sure why she prolapsed, there doesn't seem to be any egg in there. She's been in the house for about a week separated. It seemed like it was getting better, it was starting to go in on its own and stay in for longer, until she got her diaper off and pecked it again real good. Now it's swollen and scabbing again so it won't stay in. I was using disposable masks as diapers and it seemed to be working pretty well for the first few days at least, but now she knows how to get it down easily. Is there anything else I can do or use to help keep her butt covered so she can't pack at her prolapse. It's never going to heal if I can't get her to leave it alone. 😢:idunno

Photos?

If she's pecking at it, it's bothering her and probably painful.

Keep the tissue moist with ointment or oil, give her extra calcium.

You can try wrapping the tissue as seen in this thread.
