this spring i bought 18 straight run chickens of a barnyard mix, and i am having the hardest time sexing them. looking for some help as i have little experience in sexing chickens. they are all around the 9-12 week mark and a lot of them have big combs and some greenish feathering. (which makes me worried!) the lady i bought them from said they are ameraucana, EE, brahma, australop, polish, and a strain of maran. would love some input!

Pic one: Two in frame, female, one in back, male? Can't see that one well.
Pic two: I THINK female. Tail feathers are a little confusing, + comb and wattles.
Pic three: Female left, male right?
Pic four: Male left, female right, can't see left one clearly but that's my guess.
Pic five: I think Male on top, female on bottom.
Pic six: Absolutely does NOT look pure Polish. However, female.

These are just my guesses, I may be off on some, but I'm pretty confident.

You have a sapphire olive egger pullet I think! ...the blue one with slick tuft hairdo :celebrate . Full rounded feathers instead of pointed, streamer-like helps determine girls and of course noticeably absent color and formation of wattle and comb.

thanks so much! based off of you’re experience do the tail feathers on roos usually grow super slow? so i could make a guess and say my chickens without tails are roos?

i would love her to be an olive egger! the lady i bought her from believes she is a polish cross!

In SOME breeds the males feather out slower than the females, but I can't remember all of which breeds are like that. In general the males can feather out more slowly, but some breeds in general feather out slower than other breeds, so don't rely solely on that.

If you have two of the same breed and notice one is feathering out slower, has pointier tail feathers and hackle feathers, bigger/redder comb and wattles, you'll know it is male. Sometimes you can also tell by stance (males like to stand really upright, females keep their body and head lower) and by leg thickness.

the first 3 i are 7 weeks old and they are silkie/silverudd isbar cross. i’m thinking i have 2 males and a female but again i have no idea! The last is my big white roo? has the ameraucana cheeks some round feathers some not doesn’t crow is 15 weeks old, big comb, no waddles. i don’t know what to think!
First pic I'd guess male, second pic female,
third pic is harder but unless the comb and wattles get redder and bigger, I'd guess female.
I THINK your white one is male, but if it's an Ameraucana the breeding is a bit off,
they aren't supposed to have single combs like that.
Sometimes bearded chickens don't really grow wattles.
