So in September, I was super excited to get back into hatching my own fertile eggs since we are now in NC in our brand new home...with room for chickens!!

I purchased a Brinsea Maxi 24 EX incubator thinking I was buying the very best out there...I'd used the Brinsea Octagon 20 Advanced with consistantly excellent hatch rates. It was so easy to use, it was ridiculous!

I found that I had to fool around so much with this Maxi 24 EX that it was ridiculous...constantly having to adjust the eggs and make sure they were turning regularly - they like to just slide around - even with my attempts to account for this flaw, I felt like the $400 price tag should not require that I do that...endlessly...for 18 days.

SO...my husband just purchased me an older model - the Octagon 40 Advance with the cradle...and it arrived today. It's as-if it's brand new! The guy my husband purchased it from said his wife had used it once before passing away...

So...I'm SUPER excited to use it!!! But - I need to know what Humidity unit will work for it - and does Brinsea sell it...or will I have to buy it used/aftermarket?

What have you purchased for yours, if you're still using one.

Thank you!!

Brinsea's websites seem to be down or I'd have suggested you email them to see what they suggest. I've emailed them in the past and they responded within a day or two.

Here's a video showing the installation of a separate Brinsea pump onto your model. I'd check later to see if they've got those still.

For someone else wanting to add auto humidity, they priced a new pump and humidistat, then opted to go with a different one entirely.

Thanks, Debbie -

I should have mentioned that I emailed Brinsea at the same time I posted the question here...hoping to get information sooner than Monday (they are closed on the weekends).

And, yep! The website was down all Friday night!

Here's hoping they still sell them...It would be very convenient.

With my first Octagon, keeping humidity steady was pretty easy...but we lived in Florida then...NC is much dryer - at least in winter!

Fingers crossed & thanks for the reply!
