Hi, we are thinking about getting guinea fowl but we only want hens. This is because we are looking for tick control and eggs but we prefer

not to have males since they will be breeding and we dont want that. Also I have heard that males will fight over breeding rights.

Is there a place you can buy only hens, or is it only possible to buy straight run?

Also, will we have an issue if there is only females and no males?

Thanks!!

The only way to buy guinea hens only is buying adult hens. No one sells sexed keets. They are only available as straight run.

The biggest issue with having hens only will be the noise. Once they are adults the hens are very likely to "buckwheat" constantly as they call for a mate. Having a male only flock will be quieter but will not provide any eggs.

All guineas will go through their fight cycles whether they are male or female to establish their pecking order. Having hens only will eliminate the annual breeding season races and fights.
