this is gonna sound like a stupid question, but could you theoreticaly keep bobwhites and coturnix together? I'm trying to get a dual purpose production flock of quail going and currently am working with bobwhites. If i had a breeding pair of coturnix could i mix the offspring of the bw's and the coturnix in my grow out pen?

i didn't mean breeding them, just mixing them in the same pen till they reach processing age. The adult breeding pair would be kept seperate in breeding cages and I'd keep the lines pure. sorry i should have made myself more clear.

Good luck, my money's on the bobs..... i beleive they will be ok for a short time at an early age... say 1st week of life or so, but shortly thereafter the bobs are gonna be bobs and oh yes, there will be blood...........

I've mixed bobwhites, coturnix, and valleys together for the winter and they are doing just fine. Actually now that I think about it I had them all mixed together all summer too. I've heard spring is when the bobs get mean so I guess we'll see.

Please let us know how things work out in the spring.
I assume you separated them in the fall?
