I figured the 2x3 foot was the normal size for stacked cage for quail. I asked for 8-9 inch height.
4 tier with plastic bins and PVC flooring.
1/2 x 1 flooring
1x1 sides and top
roll out tray in two
regular(grow out) style cage in the other two
does that sound correct?
with 1x1 im assuming i need an inside feeder and a water setup.

They will let me know an aprox cost with shipping. All GAW which is super nice. not sure if i should add dividers but thinking i should in at least two of them.
the cages dont move so the whole thing would need to be moved for pressure washing, but the trays are easily removed.

I assume you’re talking about Coturnix? How many quail will also make a difference.
yes, jumbo. i bought hatching eggs so no idea how many will actually hatch. i ordered 52 eggs and I figured half would be wonderful for shipped eggs, but figured 20 will hatch if im lucky. I wont get the eggs for a few more months.

ok so the lady got back to me on pricing, with shipping they are more then wynola($688 without watering system) but the tray is a dura-tray and a bit taller i believe.
I cant find info on wynola if they are all GAW.
but this one would be 14 GAW 1x1 inch wire
16 gauge vinyl coated floor wire 1/2x1 inch
4 cages held with 3 inch galvanized channel for legs.

I do this…

so your saying i can only put 6 birds per cage? i wanted to put a male with the girls
and it seems 4 females to a male is popular?
is that for full grown or young birds? plan to butcher a few of them since i will likely have quite a few boys at 10 weeks seems to be when they dont grow as fast anymore.

1:5 is considered the ideal ratio, but that can vary depending on the individuals involved.

Commercial breeders will stuff 3 birds/square foot, but personally, I consider that cruel. I keep about 12 birds in a 20 square foot pen.

what about keeping them until 9-10 weeks for eating? same amount? and when do you start worrying about the boys together? im trying to research when the best time to butcher is and seems like 8-10 weeks is the time line. I found out the parent birds average 12 ounces so they are not large jumbo birds if that makes a differences? i know all figure it out when i actually have the birds, but just trying to see if i can get away with just a four stack plus the brooder and possibly and outside small kennel for keepers.

also i was going to use a divider in the top layers is that a bad idea, was trying to keep more boys for breeding. and i think two girls with one roo is not enough. three girls with one roo would be 3 square feet total for 4 birds. ... would 3 girls with 1 roo be ok or would he be too mean being that enclosed? thanks in advance for all the advice.
