What do you use for candling your dark quail eggs?

I bought a cheap plug in candler on amazon, it’s been great so far. It’s no specific brand, probably a knockoff of a brand lol.

because the button quail eggs are very tiny and fragile I have avoided candling but I’m curious to know can I candle on day 14 which I’m on now or should I just leave them and wait to see

With the brand of incubator I'm using, I have to remove the eggs so I can replace the turner plate with a hatching mat. Usually with two or three days left on the timer.

Since they're already out, I candle them then.

I carry them to the bathroom (no window) in a small plastic cup, and light them up with a Streamlight Microstream flashlight. Seems to work really well.

Of course you can, you can candle them everyday so long as you keep the incubator going and don't take too long. Candling has never affected my hatchings! Though I usually only do it on lockdown, this time I'm testing my ladies fertility so I am doing it every two days!

I have 12 button quail eggs that were due today there’s be no sign of hatching or any pipping so what do I do
Give them a couple more days. Can you see anything when you candle?

One hatching tip that we always preach here is: NEVER trust your incubator's readings. Always put a calibrated thermometer or three inside the incubator.

If you're afraid to go through the motions of candling them, maybe pick them up, one at a time and hold the egg to your ear. If they are that close, you may be able to hear them scratching around.

I did that with my Coturnix quail eggs.
