Hello!

I’m wondering if people could share pictures or ideas of somewhat comfortable and safe quarantine spaces for chickens. I know I’ll need it in various points of my chicken raising journey and I’m mow dealing with my first case of fowl pox. I currently just put them under a 2ft by 3ft frame of 2x4s covered in hardware cloth.

Im
Curious what you use for feeders and waterer a inside your quarantine space and if you provide anything for entertainment or nesting.

Looking at potentially quarantining this chicken for a few weeks and I’m pretty sure she’s going to arrange for my eventual demise while in that small space if I don’t come up with something better.

Thank you!

You probably want a different word than "quarantine". To effectively quarantine a bird, it would need to be well away from the coop and run and the healthy flock as many of the worst diseases are carried on air currents within an enclosed space.

Many of us do have a segregated space that serves multiple purposes. Mine is in an area in the corner of the run and it's about four feet by seven feet. I use it to brood and raise baby chicks, segregate a bully, provide a safe space for a recovering sick or injured chicken, or give a weak older hen some safe space to eat a treat that she's too old to effectively compete for with the flock.

It's large enough that I can get in there with my baby chicks or other chickens, and it has proved extremely useful over the years as serving so many different purposes.

That looks great. I may look to add something like that on to my run in the future. It would be really convenient for the (what now seems like many) times it’s beneficial to separate someone from the flock. Thanks for the photos!

The first time I had to quarantine a new addition, I bought a cheap rabbit hutch, set up as far as I could from my coop and run. I added a dog exercise pen to it so she could get out more. Then second time, I used my old prefab coop and run combo, that I had bought when I first got my chickens. If I need to separate a current flock member for some reason, a large dog crate inside the run works well.
