We had a great first hatch in our Brinsea incubator. We bought 12 eggs from a friend of a friend who has some roosters. One egg was cracked, so we only set 11, one of which never developed.

Of the 10 eggs that made it to lockdown, 3 didn't hatch. When we candled right before lockdown we felt certain that we saw movement in all 10 eggs. One egg looked like it had a lot more albumin but was rocking as other eggs were pipping and zipping.

When we opened the non-viable eggs all 3 chicks were formed but never pipped internally. One hadn't absorbed the yolk but the other 2 looked ready to hatch.

My husband was wondering if getting knocked around by the chicks as they were hatching could have caused them to die. Personally I don't think so, but is it a possibility?

No, I have had literally a few dozen eggs all in there touching each other and they are constantly getting moved by hatching chicks. It never causes an issue. This same thing happens under a hen.

But that said, the only thing I can think of is maybe the air cell was on the side as happens with shipped eggs or has happened with a hen of mine. Those you would have noticed when candling though.

Had they pipped and didn't hatch, I'd have thought they'd gotten shrink-wrapped but not possible to yours. I'm sorry! :hugs
