questions about quail

I live in Seattle and thinking about getting quail does anyone know what the laws for keeping quail in Seattle are?

Also in Seattle your allowed 8 poultry do quail count for that or are they counted separately because there game birds

If you plan on Coturnix?....I don't think you need a permit but if you're raising Bob's, Blues, Valley's, Gambles or Mountain quail you will need to aquire a Game Farm License....$142/year.

I do not live in Seattle so I can't exactly answer your question, but I'm assuming it would be similar to St. Louis. It does depend on what type of quail you are getting too. I had to get a permit for raising bobwhites and tag each of them since they are a native species. There was a limit of quail I could not exceed, I forget exactly what it was, but I think it was somewhere around 20 to be considered a hobby farm and anything above that was considered commercial. I also had to have an inspector come out to approve of the housing for the bobwhites before I could get the permit. Coturnix quail were not nearly as restricted as bobwhite quail, however each city and neighborhood has different rules. My neighborhood does not allow poultry, and since quail are gamebirds I figured keeping them wasn't violating the rules. If you want to be sure though, I would contact your city office.
