I love peacocks! I really like the look of some Spaldings (I’m a little picky). Can someone tell me about the blood % of green and blue in the bird in the picture. I saw the bird on YouTube and I think he’s beautiful! The perfect Spalding(IMO). Also, does anyone have sound recordings of what a Spalding peacock sounds like? I’m super curious. I love the sound of India Blue rather than Green Peafowl.

Spauldings can sound like either IB or Green depending on the amount of Green blood they have in them. Personally, I love both sounds but the Spauldings sound a little more exotic. The first breeding of a Green to a Blue produces 50% Spaulding birds, after that the percentages mean nothing as they do not breed true. Two low % birds can produce offspring that is higher or lower than they are. The bird in your above pic is a low to mid-range Spaulding. This cock would be considered a mid to high Spaulding. And a true high Spaulding most people can not tell the difference from a Green.

So Green & Blue always make 50%green blood and 50% blue blood Spaldings? How is a low range Spalding born? I like the look of the India Blue with the green tinge on the neck(but not dragon scales which look super cool on the Green Peafowl) the black and barred winds look cool to me as well😇

Only the first mating of pure Green and IB will make 50%, any breeding of those birds produced will not generate any predictable percentage as they do not breed true. So subsequent breeding makes either higher or lower percentage birds. @barkerg says, Spauldings are like snowflakes, they are ALL different, no two are alike.
Thank You for the replies. I guess if I ever get Spalding peafowl I’ll have to see what they look like in person before I buy them from wherever.

Spalding is not just a question of color ...!
It changes the shape of the body ... the character .... the spaldings are more intelligent ... more curious! Blue peacocks are ... 'when do we eat' !

😂 I like the slimmer build when talking about body shape. Better for flight too! I want to train mine to come when called, fly up to my balcony and arm. Good to know Spaldings are ‘more’ intelligent😇
