Do motion detector bright lights do anything to deter them? I’m setting up my first coop and trying to do everything correctly. If not do you have an suggestions. I turned a plastic shed into a coop.

I don't know about lights deterring them, but I do know that 1/2" hardware cloth (hwc) and good locks, like carabiners, will deter them. Chicken wire will not, thry will tear thst stuff up. Use the hwc from the ground up to about 3' up otherwise raccoons will reach through, grab a chicken and try to pull it through fencing, with disastrous results. The hwc should be reinforced with welded field fencing for support. Also use the hwc to build an "apron" around the perimeter that extends outward for at least 18" along the ground to prevent digging and cover it with gravel. Good luck! Oh - and remove any tree branches that extend over your coop. Critters will use those to access your coop or run as well.
