Has anyone dealt with the state of N.C. with quail that can show me the proper hoops to jump thru for my needed licenses? I know I need a "Game Bird Propagation" have filled out the forms. From what I have read in the N.C. Agri site, I can't sell eggs with this and can only sell to other people with this license. I would have to have a N.C. Hatching Egg Dealer license for that. The site doesn't mention eggs for human consumption. I can slaughter birds for my own use, but I can't for other people. They can't slaughter them on my property, and can't transport live birds without the above-mentioned license. All I want to do is raise some quail, sell some eggs for hatching and eating, and a few birds to help with the cost of feed, etc. Has anyone here jumped thru all of the state of N.C.'s hoops for this? Can you tell me what exactly I need, and what it will cost? What will a NPIP certificate cost? Would I be better to put the birds out back, sell to friends and keep my mouth shut? I'll take any help offered.

Thank you

NT

The dressed carcasses of pen-raised quail shall be offered for sale only when sealed in not readily resealable containers which shall bear a printed legend showing the name and address of the processor holding a valid permit.

Looks like you need a way to seal plastic bags and some labels.

vacum packing something is as easy as putting it in a plastic bag and then imersing said bag in water to push the air out I was kina looking into NC 's laws permits I live on the line in Moyock NC / Chesapeake Va. I just have,nt gotten that far yet . HTH

oh yea you need a permit as well looks like y'alls don't have a fee Vas are $12.50 much like a fishing license LOL

...which shall bear a printed legend showing the name and address of the processor holding a valid permit. Shall bear... indicates that you have to be a registered processor with a valid state license for same. Here again it gets more and more complex. I would have to have a state certified poultry processing operation to do this. I am afriad my seal-a-meal and some sticky labels won't get it here.

you might try calling them and running the numbers by them on what you intend on processing lots of packageing options available these days preprinted bags etc etc I try not to read too much into things good luck , later

It seems like everyone down here has quail, is getting them or selling them. I know alot of these people do not have permits or lics. I have checked into it and from what I read it sounded like there was a 6 month wait for the review of the permit. I was planning on getting this but I dont know about it now. I will probably just go to the hardware store by some and not worry about it if I decide I want some. Npip is only about 10 bucks the people that test are super nice. I should say it is no more than 10 bucks and a little time on the phone to set it all up. We are applying for the chick and egg lics. I know if you go to most not all auctions the people dont have all their paper work right. I do think the state will start checking this but when who knows. I have the npip number here if you need it let me know. jeff

here are a few links I found a while back when I first started looking into it it kina looks like there will be an inspection someone on here posted not long ago that it did not take that long a week or two for NC. right now I am concentrating getting squared away here in Va first . anyway good luck
