I ran out of chick starter for my 5.5 week old chicks. I went to Tractor Supply Co. and they are sold out!

What should I do? My chicks had just enough in their feeder for breakfast. Please help! Thanks!

P.S. When are they old enough to switch to starter/grower or what ever is next?

Thanks!

Same problem here. Chick feed is completely sold out! I took our layer pellets and pulsed them in a blender to a crumbly powder. The chicks are eating it up, and poop consistency is normal. Is this ok for feeding to 2 week old chicks for awhile until we can get some chick starter? I also made some cornbread with 1 cup cornmeal, half cup chick pea flour, half cup semolina flour, an egg, 2 tsp baking soda, 1 cup water, and 1/3 cup oil which crumbles easily and the chicks have been eating it. First time chick momma here! Help!

Do you have any other type of chicken feed to use until tomorrow? I use Purina Starter Grower until they are 20 weeks old, or feed Flock Raiser, which is identical and good fo all ages. Is there no other feed store open?

I have layer pellets for my adult chickens but wouldn't that make them sick? No other feed store near me.

I would only feed the layer feed for a couple of days. The layer has 4 times the calcium as the chick starter, and it can be hard on the kidneys. Just get some chick feed soon. Mixing homemade food works temporarily. I have bought some feed recently from Chewys.com, and it comes in 2-5 days. They offer free shipping on a minumium purchase, and the markup is not that bad. They just don’t have the FlockRaiser that I like. Amazon charges $52 for it, and I pay $16-17 at the feed store.
