Rate my Salmon Faverolles rooster, 'Karen'. His feelings won't be hurt.

Hi all,

Meet Karen. Karen is glorious and the best rooster I've ever had personality wise. I got him last July. I'm just curious on if he is breeding/show quality--not that it matters really, I'm still going to keep and show him I just don't know much about SF genetics and would like your opinion! Would Karen be decent to breed? Keep in mind I am a 4H kid and the 'standard' at county shows isn't too crazy.

Awe, thank you! I need to get pics of the hen I have for him...I'm thinking I will breed them but mostly just for fun. I'm not sure if they are really either Standard of Perfection-close, but I enjoy them as my 4H project. They are the most docile birds we've ever had, even more than Brahmas!

A few years back for my 4H project I started breeding Dark Brahmas. I started with Hatchery flock but ended up with some NICE birds after a few years, so I enjoy this kind of thing!

I'm hoping a SF breeder who knows a lot about the breed will be able to tell me if he's worth breeding for show! Regardless, they will both be put in the county fair in July--here's to hoping!

Your message cracked me up lol. He is indeed. IDK what his coloring looks like compared to ideal, but he is an absolute UNIT and is hilarious to look at but also super majestic in a dork way!!

Have you read the historical origins and how it was developed, I can't remember where I read about them, interesting read for the breed. Too bad there becoming endangered.

Yes, they are a super interesting breed. Super friendly and have done excellent with cold weather. Unfortunately, while I have the Standard of Perfection book, I can't find a lot of pictures online of what they should actually look like. So Karen is beautiful in my eyes because I have no ruler with which to measure him, lol.

I'm raising some super rare ones this year, some Golden Campines and Crevecours. You might like those if you like endangered breeds! They are listed as Critical by the Livestock Conservancy.

I don't know tooo much about SFs, but it looks to me like he's a bit lacking in the leg feather department. His coloring also isn't very uniform, especially on the wings.

Well I think the breed was developed in France in a town called Favorelle, if you can find some website in that origin they might have pictures of them.

She has a template to start with, but need pictures of SOP to go by.
