Hi all! This will be my first thread here so bare with me please. I am very new and limited to my Turkey genetics knowledge. I own Sweetgrass, which I believe are b’b’ cgcg. I want to use them, to make Fall Fire, which if I’ve learned correctly, is basically a Sweetgrass with one Red Gene, Rr. Now, my question here is, obviously the best cross would be a red sweetgrass, which again if I’ve learned correctly, has two copies of red, RR. But how would I go about making a red sweetgrass? Could I cross a bourbon red? I have been told that makes a red bronze, and taking the red bronze back to the Sweetgrass would make 1/8th offspring fall fire, but the calculator (thank you Kevin!) doesn’t show those results, and I’m not about to jump on yet ANOTHER Tom if he won’t provide useful. And YES I have posted on FB, already. Can anyone here help? R2Elk maybe? I’ve seen you in a few other threads, and you seem to have a great mindset for this genetic thing! I don’t know how to tag, or respond just yet, so again, please bare with me! And thank you in advance, to whoever hops in.

Sweetgrass (b1b1 cgcg) breed true. Red Sweetgrass (b1b1 cgcg rr) breed true. Mating a Sweetgrass with a Red Sweetgrass will create 100% Fall Fire.

Starting with a Sweetgrass, it will require fewer steps if you can cross it with a Regal Red (b1b1 CC rr) you will produce 100% Harvest Gold (b1b1 Ccg Rr).

Crossing the Sweetgrass with the Harvest Gold will produce 1/4 Cornish Palm, 1/4 Harvest Gold, 1/4 Sweetgrass and 1/4 Fall Fire. Breeding the Fall Fires together will yield Sweetgrass, Red Sweetgrass and Fall fire providing you with the Red Sweetgrass to use with Sweetgrass to produce 100% Fall Fire.

If you start with a Bourbon Red it takes a little more because you need to deal with the b1b, Ccg and Rr of the Red Bronze to be able to get back to the b1b1 cgcg.

Breed the Sweetgrass to the Bourbon Red to get Red Bronze. All Red Bronzes are not equal and can be created in other pairing and will have different hidden recessive color genes. You don't want to use a Red Bronze created by mating Bourbon Reds with Royal Palms.

Breed the Sweetgrass to the Red Bronze to get a wide variety of colors including 1/8 Fall Fire. Breed the Fall Fire together to get Sweetgrass, Red Sweetgrass and Fall Fire.

The simplest method is to just buy some Red Sweetgrass and skip all the in between steps.
