Dear BigBlueHen53, how true! You also need to be sure your friends want you to do this. They need separate quarters to quarantine new birds for a month before introducing them to the flock, to be sure the new birds don't contaminate their existing flock with a disease that could wipe them out. They also need a proper setup for integrating the new birds, to prevent fights and possible injuries. Please don't just surprise them with two new birds without warning.
yes the security problem has been solved, they just want to replace the missing hens with some the same age as the remaining one. where can i find a couple Feb 2025 hatched pullets? in south denver. thank you!!You are looking for chicks/pullets.
Do your friends now have a secure place for them? Did the friends know if it was dogs or other predators that killed the chicks? One needs to know who/what killed the chicks, how they gained access to them and If they have remedied the problem before they get more.
yes they are aware and on board with integrating the new ones, i just thought i would spearhead the investigation on how to get 4 month old new ones. the local feed shop only sells new ones in feb.i would live to know how to replace two chickens for my friends in south denver, who lost two (that were hatched in February ) to dogs/predators. thank you for any local information, i will drive to get a couple. thank you. !
