A friend of mine came to me after a possum had killed all but one hen from the flock. This hen had been attacked pretty bad but is still alive. I have addressed the wounds and she is still pretty swollen in that area about 5 days after the attack.
The friend had no idea what breed of chicken it was- it was purchased as a chick years ago from Tractor Supply. The hen looks exactly like my black sex links, same type of comb, feather colors and pattern. However she is huge! Her body shape reminds me of a Wyandotte, however I’m not super familiar with the breed (we just have one) or any other bigger size breeds. I haven’t weighed her but she is as heavy as other biggest rooster, a Black Australorp.
I’m wondering what breed she may be? If she is sex link she is extremely overweight. Right now she doesn’t do much walking- that could be because of the wound. But I beginning to think there could be more going on with her. Everything thing else on her looks good, super sweet hen.
These aren’t the best pictures, I can try to do better tomorrow. She stands her tail down most of the time.
