I have two out of 7 chickens (6 weeks old now) that have been sick with a respiratory infection for 3 weeks now. I originally had 10 but 3 have passed away, not sure why they had no obvious symptoms. on March 26 I got deneguard and put in chicks water at 8cc per gallon for 5 days, didn’t help much. One chicken is definitely worse then the other. Red watery eyes with swelling at times (more the right then left) sneezing and clear discharge from nose. Chick will act fine at times then look worse. After the Deneguard

I did inject chick with .20cc of LA-200 3 days apart into chest. Still no improvement. Cannot find Tylan anywhere . What is going on with my chicken? What else can I do? I did move them from a wooden brooding box to a metal dog crate, this may have helped a little, not completely convinced of it yet.

Sorry for your loss It would be good to send in any birds to the state vet for a necropsy, to know what they are dying from. It looks like MG, but there can be secondary infections, and complications, such as air sacculitis. Denagard is specifically for MG, but the chickens need to drink enough of it which can be a problem due to the taste. Some flavor the treated water to appeal more. Baytril, which is banned for chickens might be something to try, and wait a long time before using any eggs. It canntreat MG and E.coli, which may be a bacteria that is common with air sacculitis. Here is a list of state poultry vets to get a necropsy in case you have another loss:

Here is a link for Baytril (enrofloxacin) and dosage is 0.05 ml per pound—0.25 ml for a 5 pound chicken— given every 12 hours for 5 days.

I did looking the link. Is there usually a fee associated with the testing, will they require me to take to a vet first?

What state are you in? There is always a fee, as little as $25 in California, as here in Ohio, but it can be $100-200 in some places. Not every state does them. You will need to call your state vet on Monday morning and get details. In some states, they require a local vet, sometimes to send results to. I can drive a chicken to my state vet near Columbus, but then they send results to my local vet. In some states it is much easier. But it is good to know what disease(s) you are dealing with, and if a necropsy is not for you, then ask how to get a live sick bird tested at least.
