One of my silky chicken was acting strange since yesterday, we got her inside and I noticed that she keeps her head down and twitching ... Her symptoms sounded like she was dehydrated but I stayed awake all night long feeding her and giving her water. This morning she looks a little better but because she keeps her head and neck down she rolls over I don't know if I should just continue to feed and hydrate her and give her some time.... Plz help
P. S( I'm only 18 and my mother doesn't want to take her to a vet because they are really expensive)

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

Sorry your hen is unwell. Aside from vets being pricey, we very often don't get answers. :barnie

Clues to try and help... How old is your hen? What do you feed including treats and supplements regularly? How many birds total in how much space? Any recent additions? How long have you had her? Can you post a short video using you tube or vimeo? How do her droppings look? How long has she been like this? Is her crop empty in the morning?

She will not starve, though dehydration is deadly. Since you stayed up all night feeding you may not be able to detect crop issues. At they end of today when you have sufficiently hydrated her... can you leave her be and check her crop in the morning? We need to be sure it is functioning (emptying) correctly.

she will sometimes eat but she will not take any water...she drank a lot yesterday but she barely drank anything today.

She sounds like she is having wry neck symptoms, which is a neurological condition chickens can get from causes, such as head injury, vitamin E or B1(thiamine) deficiency, heredity, and certain diseases including Mareks disease and respiratory diseases. I would help her eat and drink, give her a poultry vitamin and add some cooked egg to her diet, for selenium which helps in utilization of vitamin E. Adding a lot of water to a small bowl of her feed with a little egg may get more fluids into her. This condition may last days or weeks, and can recur later. Check the date of your feed, since old feed may lose vitamin potency.

Is it possible that she dies from this?
