My sweet boy (6 years old) started losing weight late November despite his good appetite. I wormed him, dusted for mites. He would go out of his way to find feral cat poop to eat. I pulled it out of his mouth multiple times. I gave tylosan for ten days. He then had slime looking saliva. I couldn’t see anything in his mouth to indicate thrush or canker. The only thing he wanted to eat was scrambled egg and dry cat food. He passed tonight. My avian vet has been overbooked then closed for holidays. I feel I failed him. Any idea of how to reduce risk to the remaining flock? He was separated but since I don’t know what he had I don’t know how to prevent.

At 6 years old he may have passed from natural causes or cancer, its also possible that his immune system was starting to decline and a secondary opportunistic thing toom him. Do you have the ability to take him somewhere for a necropsy so you know for sure?

As for sanitizing, look into Activated Oxine, Vikron S and Odoban. I use Odoban, it's the easiest for me to get as Walmart carries it. If you go to the Odoban website it has a section on how it's used in the commercial poultry business, just dilute as recommended and follow their instructions.
