I could see how you were thinking that.
He is a blue copper Marans and they are Birchen based.
They have sex specific patterns. The hens only get the red coloring on their necks but the males get a lot of red coloring on their bodies too.
It gets a little complicated because it takes the red the little time to come in. Especially on the body parts of the males.
When they get a little older and you start seeing any red coming in around the shoulders or the saddle you can bet it's a cockerel.

One of them just had copper on neck for so long and looked very pullet with much smaller comb and wattle than the others and then boom… copper suddenly started appearing elsewhere! Last question… can hens ever have copper come through on the bodies and it’s just a fault or is it just always cockerel?
