Rooster Shaking his Head

My handsome man here scrapped with a jungle fowl about 6 months ago. He was badly injured and we thought he lost an eye, as it was visible, but not in its socket. He miraculously healed from his injuries in days!

Not until January did I notice him shaking his head funny. He does this every few minutes. I was told to watch for funny movements b/c the flu, so froke out a bit until I confirmed that he’d have more than a head-shake! It’s not a normal kind of shake like a hen after mating. He looks like he’s trying to get his bearings.

Tried to get footage over and over again. He wouldn’t do the head-shake on camera!

My guess is it’s neurological from the fight? It seems to be getting worse, and he sneezed a couple times the other day.

No one else has any problems like this. For full disclosure, though probably not relevant, I have been treating a hen for recurring pasty butt and another has a broken toe.

Have a pic here of the recovered eye, which he still uses. Link of him crowing and NOT shaking his head for me is below the pic. He’s a RIR crossed with BPR hen.

If he is sneezing, the head shake could be a symptom of a respiratory disease, to clear his airways. I would also check his ears for any drainage or gunk. You can apply a drop of hydrogen peroxide and use a QTip to check for any mites or drainage. If he is having neurological symptoms, you could try giving him 400 IU of vitamin E daily, and a bit of B complex for thiamine. A small bit of scrambled egg would five some selenium.

Thank you. I haven’t looked at his ears, specifically. I’ll do as you say with a Q-tip.

Would the vitamins be good for flock or is it best to just dose him?

My partner says he ate one of the eggs one time. We had to make sure he wasn’t making a habit of it! I’ll bet he’ll love a little scrambled egg!
